The Services
Momentum Software provided a creative, standards-based
solution to a systems integration challenge for MyDocOnline, enabling MyDocOnline
to deploy its Web-based communications channel between patients and their
doctors. Momentum helped MyDocOnline
design, build, and implement a systems integration layer that enables MyDocOnline’s
core application to communicate with multiple third-party vendors to improve
the efficiency and value of doctor-patient communications.
The Situation
MyDocOnline, a division of Aventis Pharma, provides a suite
of customized Internet applications that enables physician practices to improve
overall efficiency while enhancing patient-physician interaction. Its application provides multiple
administrative functions, including:
§
Appointment scheduling,
§
Prescription refill ordering,
§
Specialist referral requests,
§
Routine lab results,
§
Triage of medical conditions,
§
Answers to patient inquiries,
§
Insurance eligibility determination,
§
Billing inquiries,
§
Medical histories, and
§
Patient education.
To deliver these important features to MyDocOnline users, the
core application must quickly and accurately communicate with multiple external
systems that maintain both information and functionality that support and enable
the MyDocOnline core application.
Collaboration between MyDocOnline
and Momentum led to the development of an information technology architecture
that minimizes the need to make changes to MyDocOnline’s core application. This allows the MyDocOnline development team
to concentrate on where it can create the most value – extending the functionality
and productivity of the core application.
Momentum Software designed a series
of systems integration adapters to coordinate the essential and considerable
traffic between the MyDocOnline core application and its third-party vendors’
systems.
Momentum’s innovative integration
layer resides between MyDocOnline’s core application and all the external
systems it must access to provide service and data to doctors, clinic
administrators, and patients.
The Results
With the integration layer developed
by Momentum Software, MyDocOnline’s internal development team can concentrate
on what it does best – improving the communications between patients and their
doctors. Benefits of the MyDocOnline
system include:
§
Dramatically reduced telephone volume,
§
Improved documentation,
§
Enhanced patient satisfaction, and
§
Improved financial performance.
In this classic example of outsourcing, Momentum Software
adds value through its expertise in systems integration, allowing MyDocOnline
to focus exclusively on its core competency.
“Momentum provided a solution to overcome a complicated
design, development, and deployment challenge,” said Audrey Nudd, vice
president of technology for MyDocOnline.
“The resulting solution was on time, on budget, and has continued to exceed
our expectations in terms of its stability and extensibility.”
